Live Intelligence : how Orange puts AI in everyone's hands
More than 100,000 people at Orange already use generative AI in their day-to-day work. Not as a gimmick. As a real working tool: secure, open to everyone, and built together with the teams who use it.
At Orange, no one should be left behind by AI. Live Intelligence grew out of that conviction: giving everyone the means to embrace this shift, rather than simply having it happen to them.

Live Intelligence en 5 questions
Orange's internal generative AI platform. It gives access to several AI models in a secure environment, without user data ever being used by external providers.
Everyone employed by the Orange Group worldwide, since September 2023.
A personalised AI assistant, built for a specific business need and co-designed with the teams concerned. More than 200 official agents are available, covering job-advert writing, legal analysis, financial support and much more.
Every user can see their carbon footprint directly within the app, shown in grams of CO2 and in tangible equivalents. By default, Live Intelligence steers people towards the lowest-impact models.
Yes, under the name Live Intelligence, via Orange Business, since early 2025.
A conviction, not a project
In 2023, generative AI was spreading everywhere. Employees started using ChatGPT for work, with no safeguards on their data. Orange made a decision: rather than wait, or ban it outright, build something secure and open to everyone.
Six people. A few months' work. And one simple conviction, championed by Cédric Goutard, Product Owner Live Intelligence: "We were convinced that every employee across the Group would need a tool like this tomorrow, if not already today. The tools available on the internet weren't secure, so we're providing one that is."
Data protection, in fact, is the foundation. "The one thing we won't compromise on," he says. The stakes are concrete: when Executive Committee members use Live Intelligence to work on Group strategy, that information must never end up feeding external models.

Business teams are building the tools that will help them tomorrow
Launched in September 2023, Live Intelligence had passed 10,000 individual users by December of that same year. Adoption was faster than anyone expected. But what's perhaps even more striking is how teams have gone on to invent new ways of working, often well beyond anything the project team had pictured.
HR specialists built a 14-step agent for drafting job adverts that comply with Orange's charter. Legal and finance teams developed their own assistants. None of this came from a top-down directive. It came from the ground up: from the autonomy given to teams, and the trust placed in business units to work out for themselves what they needed.
That's exactly what Mahdi El Bahi, AI & Data Product Manager: "We bring the expertise in prompting and generative AI, but it's the business leads who know their own needs and where the high-value use cases lie. So we work together to turn those needs into AI assistants."
The result: more than 200 official agents co-built with the business, and 455,000 recorded uses.

What this changes, in practice
Live Intelligence, in a few figures:
These figures point to something important: Live Intelligence doesn't replace people. It frees up their time for the work that actually matters.
Every quarter, the team runs open sessions for any user who wants to join. Between 500 and 600 people take part. The feedback is direct and constructive, and it shapes how the tool evolves. When an interface update doesn't land well, a fix follows within half a day. "Because we can ship several times a day, we fixed it very fast," explains Cédric Goutard.
That's not just a technical footnote. It's a way of working: everyone across Orange Group helps shape the tools they use. Every voice counts.
- 3 hours saved per person, per week
- 30% less time spent writing and formatting documents
- 23% more capacity to manage several projects at once

When one team changes daily life for 100,000 people
Ten people for 100,000 users. Up against OpenAI, Google and Microsoft. "There are a hundred times fewer of us working on an equivalent product. We're not their equal: we don't have their sheer computing power. But we cover 80% of it, and that's the 80% that matters most for internal use,"explains Cédric Goutard.
What does this mean for candidates?
At Orange, you can have an immediate, measurable impact without waiting years to build up seniority. The projects are real, the users are already there, and your contributions show up quickly.
The distinction from a specialist AI start-up is clear, and Cédric Goutard states it plainly: "At Orange, it's applied AI: building services with AI. At a start-up, the drive tends to be towards the technological core itself. We need the same skills, people who genuinely understand AI, but to build services with it."
In short: large-scale operational projects, a direct impact on hundreds of thousands of people, and the chance to see your work rolled out fast.

A responsibility taken seriously: environmental impact
Generative AI comes with a carbon cost. Orange doesn't dodge that. Every Live Intelligence user has access to their own personal dashboard: consumption shown in grams of CO2, translated into the equivalent number of kilometres on a high-speed train or hours of streaming, to make the figure mean something.
"Because nobody really knows what 1 gram of CO2 amounts to," admits Cédric Goutard. By default, Live Intelligence steers people towards the lowest-impact models, without ever blocking access to the others.

What Live Intelligence says about Orange
Live Intelligence has now matured into a solution that Orange Business sells to corporate clients. Around a hundred clients have already been using it since early 2025. But that commercial success isn't the end of the story: it's the consequence of everything that came before it.
What matters is what this journey reveals about Orange's culture, as Mahdi El Bahi puts it: "I felt trusted from day one. That gave me the confidence to be bold, to try things, to test new ideas."
A small team building something ambitious. Business units developing their own solutions. Feedback that reshapes the tools in real time. That's what working on AI at Orange looks like: not watching the transformation from the sidelines, but helping to drive it.
