A day in the life of a Data Scientist

Level up your future and ambitions

Be tactical when picking your final year internship, as it’s a stepping stone that can give momentum to your early career. More than just ‘finding an internship’, choosing the right one is a delicate balance between emotion and reason. It can be summed up in two questions:

Passionate about data? At Orange, data guides our actions. Detecting  anomalies earlier, building more responsible AI models, delivering more reliable cloud  services: that’s the impact you can have working in data science at Orange.

But what does it look like in real life? Meera walks you through a typical day as a data  scientist at Orange.

A brief description highlighting the key message or action users can take.

What are the main steps in your day as a data scientist?

A day that balances solo focus and team collaboration. You analyse, test, and exchange ideas. A data scientist’s daily life is a mix of individual and collective work. From developing an anomaly detection algorithm, comparing results with the team, to managing cloud deployments, you manage the pace of your day.

Meera, Data Scientist at Orange Business:

"Working as a data scientist for Orange Business in Oslo, I handle several cloud projects  at the same time. My first task is to determine whether data science is the best solution  for the problem at hand. My work involves a lot of reading, communication, and  brainstorming.

Currently, I am working on a 'manufacturing anomaly detection' project as part of the  'data-driven solution' group. We create generic solutions for the cloud. We divide some  algorithms among ourselves to work on. This morning, I focus on my own algorithm."

Q&A

Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard dummy text ever since the 1500s.

Meera, Data Scientist at Orange Business:

"I start with a quick team check-in: task assignment and priority review. Then it’s time to  dive into the technical work. Data analysis, algorithm comparison, AI model reflection:  mornings are made for this. It’s the most productive time of the day.

I arrive at the office just in time for a mocha coffee, the perfect way to start my day. It’s  time for the daily team meeting. We discuss project updates and the day’s tasks. Today,  we have a little extra time, so one of my colleagues demonstrates an application he  created."

Curiosity, rigour, and teamwork. You read, compare models, and test in  the cloud. Every project pushes you to learn. Data scientist skills, aren’t just about a CV,  they’re about advancing methodically and enthusiastically.

Meera, Data Scientist at Orange Business:

"In the early afternoon, I focus on the top task on my to-do list. I deploy via  MLOps on the cloud and encounter an issue with the hyperscalers. I’ll discuss it with the Azure or AWS team to get support."

At Orange, meetings are useful. They move projects forward and build  connections. Morning daily meetings to synchronise the team. Noon
technical demos to compare algorithms. Quick discussions with the Azure  team to solve cloud issues.

Meera, Data Scientist at Orange Business:

"To start the afternoon, I prepare for my meeting, where the team will discuss  the pros and cons of the algorithms we’ve worked on and ultimately choose  the one that best solves our problem."
