What I wish I had known about Network Jobs at Orange

Broadband, cybersecurity, cloud, AI... Behind all these buzzwords are real jobs. And above all, passionate people who keep networks running every single day.

Rita, Alassane, Eflamm, Theo, Alexandra, Nicolas, and more are here to tell us about their daily tasks. Network administrator, cybersecurity engineer, infrastructure architect: each role is unique, but all are committed to building useful, open, and ever-more- reliable networks. Here’s how.

What makes network jobs essential

Theo

Cloud strategy leader
"Today, I think everyone sees connectivity - making phone calls and going online - as a kind of public service. Almost like water when you turn on the tap."

Gaspard

Deputy mission leader
"99% of telephone communications and intercontinental data transfers pass through submarine cables. Those cables we’re laying are essential to transmit all those communications."

Eflamm

Research intern on future radio networks
"The network is also everything we have in our homes, all the tools around us. We optimise radio or wireless transmissions for the Internet of Things in our jobs."

How innovation shapes our networks

Yves

Network strategy
"The telecommunications sector is evolving rapidly thanks to technological  innovation. We invest heavily in automation, AI, APIs, and cloud computing to optimise  networks. APIs allow easy integration of new features. Cloud computing offers flexible  resource management. AI is key in optimising network performance, anticipating user  needs, and providing personalised services through real-time data analysis."

Rita

Research engineer
"We collaborate on open source networks, and all these applications directly  impact the work of operators and integrators. We are moving towards smarter networks  with machine learning, and our mission is to integrate all these building blocks."

Alassane

Data scientist researcher
"Thanks to AI and the data from our networks, we can understand future needs,  both in time and space, and size the networks. We can anticipate outages and propose  resolution mechanisms."

Q&A

Nicolas, network and innovation division at Orange:

"The network enables artificial intelligence systems to learn and improve by processing massive  amounts of data. It paves the way for significant advances in areas such as speech  recognition, computer vision, and automated decision-making."

Nicolas, network and innovation division at Orange:

"Working on networks at Orange means facing several major challenges, while  keeping up with the latest technological advances.

The first challenge is to support the exponential growth of data by offering higher  speeds and greater capacity. This is why broadbandand 5G are being rolled out.

The second challenge is managing this growth cost-effectively, i.e., optimising costs  while meeting increased usage, without raising the customer bill.

The third challenge is automating increasingly complex networks to balance economic efficiency and quality of service. This requires deploying network management software and the growing integration of artificial intelligence for proactive and predictive infrastructure management.

The fourth challenge is making networks more energy-efficient by promoting greener  energy sources. The emergence of quantum networks is a key opportunity for the  future, opening the way to ultra-secure communications and
revolutionary information processing capacities."

Yann, service architect at Orange:

"We need specialists in engineering, development, ergonomics… We are looking for a  wide variety of profiles, whether highly technical experts who know today’s network  in detail, or people motivated by new technologies such as AI, virtualisation, APIs,  and automation.

We are at the beginning of a new revolution in the transformation of networks and  usage."

Technologies deployed in the Orange network are constantly evolving. In every  job, you keep learning.

Alexandra, HR director, Orange Innovation Networks division:

"Today, we face an important challenge of developing skills around the software and  data transformation of networks. We have many initiatives to prepare for the future,  notably by investing in the skills development of our employees."
