Purpose of the job

Ensure availability and smooth operation and administration of the visibility layer equipment (Gigamon). In addition to coping with network expansions, in addition to the Network Performance Management

Duties and responsibilities

  1. Gigamon System Operation:
    1. Ensure availability of Gigamon packet Brokers in all core sites
    2. Checking the status of the HW modules
    3. Checking system event logs and act accordingly
    4. Checking active alarms and alarms log and act accordingly
    5. Check the status of the input and output ports of each packet broker equipment
    6. Check the Rx level at the input ports of each Packet Broker
    7. Install SW release upgrades and update patches
  2. Gigamon System Administration:
    1. Organize access to the system
    2. Manage the accounts and access privilege to the system
    3. Monitor the activities done by users on the system
    4. Observe the resources utilization of the FM server
    5. Check for utilization of ports at both input and output ports
    6. Optimize the filtration rules according to the needs
    7. Understand the new system features and utilize them efficiently
    8. Backup the system configurations for emergency situations (and update with each change)
  3. Gigamon System Integration:
    1. Follow up running expansions of Orange network
    2. Understand the network topology and determine the best tapping points
    3. Assign the proper type of TAPs for use in each case according to network connections
    4. Plan for the connections for the inputs according to network expansion
    5. Check for the requirements for the destination monitoring systems in-terms of the filtration rules and number/types of links required
  4. Gigamon System Troubleshooting:
    1. Detect the root cause of any fault appears
    2. Run diagnostics tests according to system documentation
    3. Test the status of the input ports on the system GUI
    4. Measure the power level physically on the links, if needed
    5. Check for and historic logs that may help in detecting the cause of fault
    6. Organize with the related teams from both input and output sides for mutual testing
    7. Replace any faulty HW parts
    8. Arrange with the supplier in case of high level support required
    9. Install any correction SW patch required
  5. Gigamon System capacity planning:
    1. Check for the actual loads versus the purchased capacity per PB device
    2. Estimate the needed capacity per site based on the network growth roadmap
    3. Optimize the capacity by removing any unuse/obsolete links
    4. Collaborate with platform owners to get the traffic forecast and new topology in early stage of the project planning
  6. Network Performance Management System:
    1. Operation and Administration of the MPLS network monitoring system
    2. Ensure for the availability of the KPIs and output of the system
    3. Organize the access to the system
    4. Manage user accounts rules and privileges

Job specification

Education

University degree Faculty of Engineering-Communications Dept

Experience

6 years in telecommunications and Core Data Network field, preferable in the following fields (GSM, DCS, GPRS, Data or similar systems)

Skills and abilities

  • knowledge of GSM/UMTS systems and protocols
  • knowledge of Data Network protocols
  • Ability to work under pressure & having a pro-active personality.
  • Good mastering the English language.
  • knowledge of all interfaces/protocols
  • Presentation/communication skills (Inter and intra team)
  • High analytical mentality with excellent problems solving skills
  • Excellent report writing ability
